Suspect apprehended as suspicious Saskatoon duplex fire investigated

SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Fire Department and Saskatoon Police Service are investigating a suspicious house fire Wednesday in Saskatoon. Firefighters were called to 1940 Easthill at around 2:45 p.m. CT and found heavy smoke and flames emanating from the east side, rear bedroom window.

The duplex was occupied at the time but everyone was able to get out safely.

Crews attacked the fire outside the room of origin to gain control of the blaze before members entered through the front door to knock down the remaining flames.

There is a moderate level of water and smoke migration to the interior of the west side of the home. Damage is estimated at $200,000.

A 25-year-old man has been apprehended as a suspect in the cause of this incident.

Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
