Romantic Summer Destinations

Well it is finally starting to feel like summer here in the lower mainland! With the beach days and patio cocktails, romance is definitely in the air during the summer months. In fact, 90% of engaged couples will tell you that weather is a key factor in choosing a destination for their wedding, with the summer months being the most popular time to tie the knot and take a honeymoon. For others – it’s just a good time to get away for some relaxation.

If you’re in the market for some R & R with your other half, here are some destinations that could definitely get the romance flowing. Starting closer to home – on the west coast of Vancouver Island – the nature, scenery and quiet, tucked-away beaches of Tofino are really a couple’s dream. Lots of options for accommodations, including camping, if that’s your thing.

About two and a half hours from Vancouver – Whidbey Island is really an oasis and so beautiful in the summer. You’ll find coastal bluffs, kayaking, great seafood meals and a romantic sunset or two to enjoy.

The east coast is also chalk full of romantic summer destinations including the islands off of Bar Harbor, Maine. Many of them are just a short boat ride from the mainland.

You’ll find rugged surroundings, beautiful accommodation to cozy up in – and all the lobster you can eat!

North American travel agents generally see a big surge in European vacations in summer – many of them involving couples looking for that perfect getaway. There are too many to list them all, but here are a couple that get top billing.

The lush, vineyard-filled hills of Italy’s Tuscany and scenic Amalfi Coast are the perfect couples’ destination.

And there are tiny cliff-side towns on the Sorrento Coast that are somewhat undiscovered villages – with romantic castles & secluded pebble beaches.

For the romantic adventurers, maybe a romantic getaway to Morocco is more your style if it is check out where the locals like to “beach” – along the coast just south of Casablanca. You’ll find every kind of activity to get the romance flowing – including everything from world-class kiteboarding and architecture to bustling restaurants and relaxing spas.

So whether you want to stay close to home – or make it more of an adventure – there’s a summer romance destination for everyone.
