Saskatoon couple wins $1M Lotto Max prize

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon couple didn’t know how lucky they were until this past weekend, according to Saskatchewan Lotteries. Romuald and Maricel Fabian won a million dollars on the April 8 Lotto Max draw.

The surprise came while they were shopping for groceries and Maricel decided to check the ticket she’d bought inside Superstore at 411 Confederation Drive.

“When I first saw her in the store she looked pale, but excited,” continued Romuald. “We tried to just get on with our grocery shopping, but we couldn’t. We had to check the ticket again.”

Initially, the Fabians thought they’d won $10,000 but soon discovered it was actually $1,000,000.

“I had to slap myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming,” Romuald joked.

They plan on using the money for their kids’ education, helping family and putting it towards retirement.

The couple’s winning numbers were 5, 15, 20, 27, 30, 42 and 46.
