Mounties release composite sketch of suspect wanted in Stony Plain trail attacks

RCMP released a composite sketch on Wednesday for a suspect wanted in connection with two separate attacks on walking trails in Stony Plain last month.

On March 28, police said a 19-year-old woman was attacked while walking down a path shortly after midnight in the town west of Edmonton.

They said she was walking on a path near 49 Avenue and Brown Street when a man approached her from behind and threw her to the ground and got on top of her. Luckily, the woman was able to fight him off and get to safety.

The suspect in that attack was described as stocky, in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5’10” tall and smelling strongly of alcohol.

Police are also invesitgating another attack that took place on March 13 at about 5:30 a.m. While a woman was jogging near South Park Drive and 44 Avenue.

Another 19-year-old woman ran past a man who then began to follow her. He caught up to her before throwing her to the ground and sexually assaulting her.

The suspect in that incident is described as heavy set, about 40 to 45 years old, about 6’0″ tall and had a dark tattoo on his right wrist that may have been part of a sleeve tattoo. The suspect was also described as smelling strongly of alcohol.

On Wednesday, police added more details of the description of the suspect being sought in that attack, saying he was around 280 to 290 pounds, with olive skin and a black or brown beard about two inches long. They also said he was wearing jeans and a bright orange construction jacket.

RCMP have not said whether they are looking for the same suspect in both cases but have noted there are clearly similarities.
