Expecting an early morning pick-me-up, one Starbucks customer instead found an unexpected message on his cup. “DIABETES HERE I COME” was printed in capital letters on his grande white mocha cup in the city of St. Augustine, on the northeast coast of Florida.
The customer – who doesn’t want to be identified – said the message hit close to home.
“That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback,” he told Action News Jax.
He said his two sisters suffer from Type 1 diabetes.

“Seeing and knowing the struggle my sisters went through since third, fourth grade, it definitely struck a nerve and I didn’t just want to let it go.”
The grande white mocha is known for having 470 calories. But the Starbucks store manager said the only thing that should be written on the label is the drink type and the name of the customer.
The customer said he doesn’t need an apology, he just wants to be reassured that it won’t happen again. So he wrote a note on the same cup and left a message for the barista: “2 of my sisters are diabetic, so … not funny.”
