New safety policy in place at La Loche, Sask. high school

A school in northern Saskatchewan where a mass shooting took place has a new safety policy. Starting Monday, access will be restricted at La Loche Community School.

Rooms will be locked during class hours and students not inside when the bell rings will either be escorted to their seats or forced to leave the building.

Officials say security will also periodically sweep the halls.

A teacher and a teacher’s aide were gunned down at the school on Jan. 22. Two brothers were found dead in a home nearby.

Seven other people were injured.

A 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Tuesday.
