Funtastic good for Vernon economy: organizer

Thousands of people have converged on the North Okanagan this weekend for a long running tradition: the Funtastic slow-pitch tournament and music festival.

4,500 people are expected to take part in the 28th annual Funtastic tournament in Vernon. 80% of them are from out of town.

Organizers say those kinds of numbers mean big bucks for Greater Vernon’s economy.

“Hotels are booked. Campsites are all booked. This town fills up,” said Brett Kirkpatrick. He says the festival is expected to generate $4.4 million for the local economy.

Funtastic also offers evening concerts, which has crowds swelling to around 6,000.

The headliner on Saturday night is Lou Graham, formerly of Foreigner and Trooper. Tickets are expected to sell out. You can get them at the door or at A&W restaurants.
