NEAR KELOWNA — The Kelowna and Ellison fire departments banded together to rescue a hiker who slipped and fell into an area he could not get himself out of in the Postill Lake Road area.

Platoon Captain Kelly Stephens with the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) says its High Angle Rescue Team was called around 1:30 p.m. for a report of an ATV rider who had crashed. It turned out to be a hiker who needed to be rescued.

“The KFD High Angle Rescue Team lowered one member to the male rider to assess his condition,” says Stephens.

“The hiker was then put into a climbing harness and was pulled up to a safe area with the rest of the rescuers.”

Stephens says the Ellison Fire Department was in contact with the victim on his cell phone. The victim told rescuers he was okay but stuck on a ledge.

“The hiker did not suffer any injuries; however, he was very cold and tired. The hiker was checked out by BCAS on scene,” says Stephens.

Stephens adds the fire department is urging outdoor enthusiasts to always let someone know where they’ll be going and to dress for the elements.
