Gas bar employee dragged behind truck in central Alberta gas-and-dash incident

A gas station employee in central Alberta was able to walk away with only minor injuries after he was dragged behind a vehicle attempting to get away without paying for fuel.

It happened at the Shell gas station in Rimbey on Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP said at around 2:30 p.m., a man driving a white Dodge Ram filled up a slip tank with about $300 worth of gas. The driver left the station without paying for the gas, RCMP said.

A store employee saw the truck driving away and attempted to stop it, which ended with the staff member being dragged on the ground for a short distance.

The employee was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

RCMP are now searching for the suspect, who is described as a man in his 30s. He was wearing black sunglasses and blue jeans at the time. He also has a dyed red mohawk, according to police.

The truck is described as a white Dodge pickup with a black sticker stripe package on the hood. It had a large red slip tank in the cab and was covered in mud at the time.

Police believe the truck was last seen in the area of Highway 20 and Range Road 15A.
