A message attached to a unisex washroom sign at a Krogers Marketplace in Athens, GA has gone viral.

Two unisex washrooms have been in operation since August of 2014 when the store opened.

A post to the company’s Facebook page last weekend by Krogers shopper Tonya Owens, showing the sign along with the caption, “Nice job Kroger,” has since been shared over 100,000 times with 2,800 comments and 67,000 likes.

The sign explains what the washroom is intended for, and covers all sorts of situations: it’s a place for “dad’s with daughters, moms with sons, parents with disabled children, those in the LGBTQ community, adults with aging parents who may be mentally or physically disabled.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Shoppers agree the washrooms certainly come in handy.

“There’s been problems when I have my little brothers especially when they were little and I couldn’t take them in,” a Krogers shopper told WXIA News.

“I’ve actually had men come up to me and ask me if I could take their child in, which I have no problem doing, but it makes it more convenient,” another shopper said.

The washrooms are each a single room with a lock.

“If it’s several bathrooms at one time I can see where there could possibly be some concerns for people,” another shopper added.

The unisex bathroom sign took on more prominence in the state of Georgia where Gov. Nathan Deal recently vetoed a religious freedom bill, which was argued by some as legalizing discrimination against the LGBTQ community.

“I commend them for doing that, stand up for equality and supporting the needs of others especially in today’s society where we have gender identification that is very relevant,” a Krogers shopper said.
