VAUDREUIL-SOULANGES – A project that’s long overdue may finally be coming together – Vaudreuil-Soulanges residents should soon see a hospital in their area.

In a Youtube video uploaded by MNA Lucie Charlebois, Premier Philippe Couillard said the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region would benefit from a hospital and it’s one of his government’s priorities.

He added that a location for the site will be announced very soon.

The Vaudreuil-Soulanges district, with a population of around 150,000, is reportedly one of the only regions of its size in Canada without its own hospital facilities.

Residents in the area can’t wait to have a hospital in their area.

“I’ve just moved into the area two years ago but I’m from a community that has a hospital and I kind of miss that opportunity,” said Pincourt resident, Anne Von Russ.

Residents of Vaudreuil-Soulanges are designated to be served by a hospital in Valleyfield, but many of those residents head to the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire or even travel across the border to Ontario.

“I’ve gone to Cornwall for testing,” said Von Russ. “I’ve been down to Valleyfield, because that is our territory but the Lakeshore is the closest and the most convenient.”

It’s been almost six years since then health minister Yves Bolduc made the official announcement that Vaudreuil-Soulanges would be getting a new hospital.

After false starts in the past, residents are hoping this time around the province will stick to their promise.
