CHÂTEAUGUAY – About 200 people have been forced from their homes after a fire erupted in Châteauguay Thursday night.
It started in the basement of a four-storey apartment building on Maple Boulevard and quickly spread up to the first and second floors.
It took 100 firefighters 30 minutes to get everyone out of the building; some residents were trapped on their balconies.
Four people were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The Red Cross brought residents to the gymnasium of Howard S. Billings High School for the time being.
Investigators are on the scene to figure out how the fire started.
