Thousands of people descended on Whistler this weekend to take part in the inaugural Tough Mudder challenge. Whistler is the first Canadian destination.
The event describes itself as a “hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.”
Some teams dressed up for the event, with Global BC employees going as ‘Global Warning’, but spirits were high throughout Whistler leading up to, and after the event.

“The occupancy this weekend was very high,” said Breton Murphy, direction of partnerships at Tourism Whistler. “We’re sitting at about 90 per cent Friday and Saturday, and when you have that kind of buzz in the village you’re seeing it as you walk through. The visitation levels are great for this weekend, compared to, if you look back at last summer, we were sitting at about 60 per cent occupancy for Friday and Saturday, so it’s a huge impact for us.”
More than 14,000 people registered for the Tough Mudder in Whistler, and most were just looking forward to having a good time, and surviving the course.
The money raised from the event goes to Wounded Warriors of Canada.
There is no guarantee at that time that Whistler will host the Tough Mudder event next year.
