KELOWNA — Authorities are sending a reminder to smokers to butt out their cigarettes following another hedge fire.

The latest one happened early Wednesday morning in the 600-block of Christleton Avenue near Kelowna General Hospital.

“At approximately 3 a.m.,  Kelowna Fire Department dispatch received a number of 911 calls reporting a Hedge fire involving several shrubs close to buildings,” says Platoon Captain, Eric Simpson.

He says the flames were knocked down before they could spread to the buildings and is reminding smokers to be more vigilant.

“Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind people to dispose of any smoking materials in a proper manner,” says Simpson.

It’s the second hedge fire in Kelowna in as many weeks.

Last week, a discarded cigarette caused a hedge fire near a motel on Highway 33 in Rutland.
