Calgary police and Calgary Transit have increased security on the city’s public transit system and at the airport as a result of terrorist attacks in Brussels Tuesday.
Brian Whitelaw, superintendent of Public Safety and Enforcement Section with Calgary Transit, said all staff had been alerted to be more watchful and report anything suspicious.
Passengers were also asked to watch for anything unusual.
Calgary police confirmed they have increased patrols in all areas of Calgary International Airport in response to the terrorist attacks abroad as well.
Mathieu Laroque with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority said security checkpoint staff at Calgary International and other airports were asked to be more vigilant Tuesday, but the screening procedures had not been changed yet.
Passengers will follow the same security and pre-boarding procedures as usual.
Transport Canada said there is no specified threat against any public transportation but everyone should increase vigilance.
