More than 2,000 tickets handed out in 24-hour traffic blitz

EDMONTON — More than 2,000 drivers were slapped with tickets during a 24-hour enforcement operation police conducted on Edmonton roads Thursday.

A total of 2,363 traffic violations were handed out during the Edmonton Police Service’s traffic blitz.

Of those, 512 tickets were for speeding. There were also 416 violations for seatbelt infractions, impaired driving, distracted driving and other traffic and criminal code offences.

During a similar 24-hour traffic campaign in February, police handed out 2,295 tickets.

Edmonton police and the City of Edmonton regularly coordinate traffic enforcement campaigns like this 24-hour blitz.
