Former Taber man’s sex assault conviction overturned

TABER, Alta.- A former Taber man who was convicted in 2014 for sexually assaulting two young boys has had his conviction overturned.

Jorden Van Voorthuizen was sentenced to nine years in federal prison after he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault, spanning back to 1995-2001.

When the allegations came forward, Van Voorthuizen, 51 years old at the time, was tracked down and arrested by Interpol in Greece.

Earlier this week in Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench, the judge was told the Court of Appeal had overturned the conviction.

Van Voorthuizen’s lawyer will be appearing in Lethbridge court on Apr. 11 to speak to his client’s release.
