REGINA – A Facebook post from a now former-NDP candidate has drawn the attention of the Saskatchewan Party after the post suggested that Brad Wall’s mother should have taken an abortion pill.

Mark Jeworski stepped down as a candidate for the NDP in the Weyburn-Big Muddy riding on Friday morning for what he called personal reasons.

A Facebook comment allegedly made by Mark Jeworski on August 8, 2015 regarding the RU-486 abortion pill coming to Canada stated that “Brad Wall’s mom should of taken the abortion pill.”

The Saskatchewan Party also pointed out several other controversial comments allegedly made by Jeworski on Facebook.

Following the federal election Jeworski allegedly wrote, “On the bright side with pot going to be legal I can be high as f— when Canada falls apart, but I’ll be high and not care.” He also allegedly wrote, “Well I’m pulling out in the spring, why put myself through s—!!! F— it.”

Even further back, on December 17th, 2014, Jeworski allegedly took to post a message that said, “Bob Bjornerud is a penis,” and that “you Sask. Party guys can’t stand anything that doesn’t suck Brad Walls a–.”

However, the post that first caught the eye of the Saskatchewan Party was seemingly much more tame. Referring to uranium mining, Jeworski allegedly posted, “Lots wrong with nuclear and that is one resource I’d agree to be left in the ground.”

In a statement, Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall said, “There are over 4,000 people employed in the uranium industry in Saskatchewan and nearly half of those workers are First Nations and Métis. Yet here we have an NDP candidate who wants to shut down the entire uranium industry, destroy an important part of Saskatchewan’s economy and put 4,000 people out of work.”

NDP leader Cam Broten addressed the comments Mark Jeworski made at a news conference in Saskatoon on Friday.

“This candidate has stepped down he is off the team and he left for personal reasons,” said Broten.

“A comment like that of course is not appropriate but he made a personal decision and he is off the team.”

This is the second candidate in as many days that the NDP has lost, seemingly over controversial comments made on social media.

Saskatchewan Party candidate Don McMorris weighed in on the issue Friday afternoon, calling NDP leader Cam Broten’s handling of the matter a “colossal failure of leadership.”
