SASKATOON – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Cam Broten says he will cancel a program meant to find ways to save health-care dollars if he is elected premier April 4.
Broten says the Lean initiative has instead cost the province tens of millions of dollars and hurt patient care.
Speaking at a campaign stop in Saskatoon, Broten said the Saskatchewan Party government should have been using that money to address health-care problems.

Broten said a recent study published in the International Journal for Quality in Health Care concluded that every dollar saved by Lean cost the province about $1,500.
The provincial auditor has reported that the government is now using Lean in 19 ministries and agencies, four post-secondary schools and 28 school divisions.
The government says that Lean, overall, has been a success.
