Emergency crews are on the scene of an explosion and large fire at a mill in Quesnel.

The blast occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the WestPlant MDF plant near the Quesnel airport.

It’s unclear what may have caused the explosion.

The fire was brought under control and crews remained to put out hot spots.

Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson said he expects the plant to be fully operational within a week.
