A lockdown at the Bowden Institution was lifted again Monday after some inmates showed symptoms linked with influenza last Thursday.
This was the second time a lockdown was put in place at the facility due to flu-like symptoms.
The most recent time, it was at the facility’s minimum-security unit. Officials said the decision was made as a precautionary measure.
Visits were suspended to the unit and the Correctional Service of Canada was working with health officials to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
Inmates with flu-like symptoms put the facility’s medium security unit on lockdown on March 5. That lockdown was lifted four days later. On Wednesday, the institution had resumed “normal operations.”
The Bowden Institution is a medium security prison located about 110 kilometres north of Calgary.
