No victims, suspects identified in downtown Calgary shooting

Calgary police sealed off an area around 11 Street and 12 Avenue southwest early Thursday evening after gunfire rang out in a busy street.

Police said they received 911 calls at around 5 p.m.

Witnesses told Global News they heard what sounded like two series of loud gunshots.

Others saw a dark-coloured car with bullet holes on the passenger side, and a smashed window, heading southbound on 12 Street.

“I was little bit scared, because it’s not like ordinary day,” said Michal Hrnciar, who was nearby and heard the shots. “I live here three months, so this happened first time.”

There are no reports of anyone being injured.

Police said they were checking with the emergency departments at Calgary’s hospitals in case someone with gunshot wounds shows up.

Officers combed the area, looking for evidence.

A couple of blocks south, a grey Ford Taurus was surrounded in yellow police tape. It was parked in the lot of an apartment building just east of 12 Street southwest.

Police could not confirm if it was connected to the shooting.

Investigators have received differing reports of a vehicle and suspect.
