Wayne Gretzky book coming this fall will unveil ‘some of the great moments’

TORONTO — For Wayne Gretzky, there’s something special about the number 99.

The NHL’s all-time scoring champion has struck a deal with Viking Canada for a book about the game’s history and his own place in it.

The book, which is still untitled, will be released in the fall to coincide with the league’s 99th annivesary.

In a statement released Thursday through his publisher, Gretzky said he would provide his “take on some of the great moments” in hockey and tell stories previously known only to “friends, family and teammates.”

Gretzky’s No. 99 was retired by the NHL after his final season in 1999, when he was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

For his upcoming book, Gretzky will collaborate with bestselling hockey writer Kirstie McLellan Day.

It will be published in the U.S. by G.P. Putnam’s Sons.
