Brandon Wheat Kings trounce Saskatoon Blades 12-2

BRANDON, Man. – Jayce Hawryluk had five goals – including a natural hat trick to close out the third period – to power the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Saskatoon Blades 12 -2 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action. John Quenneville had a pair of goals and two assists for Brandon (40-18-6), while Nolan Patrick scored as part of a five-point night.

Macoy Erkamps and Tyler Coulter had a goal and two assists apiece, while Ivan Provorov and Tanner Kaspick chipped in as well.

Logan Thompson made 25 saves for the win.

Nick Zajac and Connor Gay replied for Saskatoon (24-35-4). Brock Hamm started in net for the Blades, stopping 25 of 30 shots in 31:54. Evan Smith turned aside 13-of-20 shots in relief.

The Wheat Kings went 1 for 3 on the power play and the Blades were 1 for 5 with the man advantage.

With the loss, Saskatoon sits nine points out of a playoff spot with nine games remaining in the regular season.

The Blades are back in action Friday when the Lethbridge Hurricanes visit Saskatoon. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
