REGINA – A handful of locations across southern Saskatchewan broke a number of daytime high records Friday.

In the afternoon, Regina was 17 degrees above seasonal, breaking an 84-year-old record.

Back in 1932, Regina was sitting at 8.9 C compared to Friday’s 12 C high.

Over in Moose Jaw, temperatures rose to 14.8 C, breaking the 11.9 C record in 1988.

The weather was also higher in Estevan with a new record of 12.4 C, just one degrees above the record set in 1988. Temperatures reached 12.3 C in Weyburn, above the 10.5 C record set in 1988 as well.

It was a bit cooler in Broadview Thursday at 8.3 C, but the town’s temperature still beat 6.8 C in 1988.

Nathan Snell, general manager at Rock Creek Tap and Grill Normanview in Regina, said he decided to open the patio due to the temperatures.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“We took the opportunity to be one of the first patios open in Regina because we deserve it,” Snell said.

Snell added that the customers were taking advantage of being able to sit outdoors.

“The vibe is really fantastic,” Snell said.

“We’re a lot busier than we have been in the last few weeks just because everyone is just super happy. No one is wearing jackets.”

He plans to continue to open the patio when the weather allows it.

Victoria’s Tavern and Leopold’s Tavern also shared pictures of their open patios on social media.
