A 14-year-old Rottweiler had to be rescued after falling down 20 meters and getting trapped in a ravine close to his home in Abbotsford yesterday morning.
Due to an intense downpour, Taz got too close to the edge and slipped.
His caretaker, Michelle Dunn, tried to get him out. But it was too slick and dangerous, so she called for help.
Using ropes, pulleys and a basket stretcher, rescue crews were able to pull Taz out.
Michelle says Taz was in a pretty bad shape when they got him out.

“He was just lying on the stretcher; he would not move. He was soaking wet, in a daze, obviously exhausted, very hungry… I couldn’t feed him quick enough.”
But once they got him home and wiped him with towels, it did not take long for Taz to go back to his normal self.
Michelle and Taz’s owner will be discussing setting up some fencing to prevent anyone from falling into the ravine again.
Meanwhile, Dunn says they are thankful to the firefighters who risked their safety to rescue Taz.
“They did a wonderful job. They were very friendly and helpful. They came so equipped and efficient. It was great.”
