UPDATE: Police officer injured after getting struck by fleeing motorcyclist

A collision on the Knight Street Bridge in Vancouver has sent a police officer to hospital with serious injuries.

It is alleged the officer was standing near his motorcycle shortly after 11:30 a.m. this morning, trying to flag down a motorcycle operator for speeding when he allegedly struck the officer in an attempt to avoid the police.

Initially, police said injuries to the officer and the motorcycle operator were serious, but not believed to be life-threatening. VPD now says the motorcyclist received only minor injuries and has been released from hospital. The injured police officer remains in hospital.

Police released the 28-year-old man pending further investigation.

It is not clear how the traffic officer was struck, and the investigation continues.

Police still have to speak with additional witnesses and the injured officer as well as review video obtained from the scene.
