Crime analysts have been focusing on identifying and cracking down on a few chronic offenders.

Police say they are responsible for a large share of crimes like car theft, break and enters and mail theft around the Lower Mainland.

The operation against those repeat offenders was launched last fall.

It’s now being credited for a 18 per cent drop in property crime during the last quarter of 2015.

“That really allows us to monitor those that are causing, for lack of a better term, the most havoc,” said Supt. Shawn Gill with Surrey RCMP. “We meet weekly and then there’s daily reporting on [those] targets selected. But a lot of that is driven by our analysts.”
