Dramatic video out of Fairfax, Va., shows firefighters desperately working to rescue a dog that became trapped after falling through thin ice Wednesday.
According to a press release from the Fairfax County Police Department, a 75-pound dog named Angel fell through thin ice on Lake Thoreau at around 8:40 A.M. Wednesday.
Kristina Evans, who lives nearby, said she was preparing her kids for school when she heard the dog crying out for help.
“I heard the dog and I stopped and I said, ‘That’s a distress call,'” Evans told NBC 4 News in Washington, D.C.

When firefighters arrived, they found the dog trying to free herself from the ice, clinging to an ice shelf with just her front paws.
“We saw the dog was half in the water, half out, clinging to some ice, so we knew we had to get in there,” said Joe Gangler of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
The firefighters donned what are known as Ice Commander suits, allowing them to enter the frigid waters and try to retrieve the trapped animal.
Ten minutes later, the firefighters had made their way to Angel, helping bring her back onto dry land.
Angel didn’t suffer any serious injuries and was returned to her owner a short time later.
