CALGARY – Calgary Flames goaltender Karri Ramo will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus damage in his left knee during a game last week.

The NHL team made the announcement Wednesday on its verified Twitter feed.

“Tough blow for Karri,” said head coach Bob Hartley. “He’s been working so hard and bounced back from a tough start.”

Ramo was placed on injured reserve after hurting his leg last Thursday in the third period of a 6-5 shootout win over San Jose. Sharks forward Joonas Donskoi was hauled down near the crease and collided with Ramo before they crashed into the goal post.

There was no immediate word on a date for surgery.

“The focus is making sure everything goes well and I’m ready for next year,” Ramo said.

The 29-year-old Ramo is 17-18-1 this season with a 2.63 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. Entering play Wednesday, the 25-27-3 Flames were just three points ahead of last-place Edmonton in the Western Conference standings.
