A young skier experienced a close call on Whistler’s Peak Express chairlift yesterday.
A YouTube video posted by Christopher Sakai shows the young boy dangling from the chairlift 10 metres in the air.
Whistler employee Tomas Antolin Grant said the boy bent down to grab his ski pole and slipped off his chair. Other chairlift passengers notified staff who stopped the lift immediately and leaped into action.
“I basically grabbed the emergency fireman’s net, grabbed seven people from the crowd and ran to him as fast as I could,” Grant said.
Once everyone was in place, the child landed safely in the net.
“He was really brave,” Grant said of the 11-year-old. “He didn’t cry. He didn’t have any issues. He was smiling when he landed. He had no injuries at all.”
