EDMONTON — A hotel employee was struck in the head with a fire extinguisher during a robbery west of Edmonton on Monday.
RCMP were called around 4:15 a.m. to the Grove Motor Inn on Highway 16A in Spruce Grove.
A lone night shift receptionist was working in a back room when he heard a noise outside the office. He went to check it out and was confronted by a man armed with a fire extinguisher, police said.

The suspect hit the receptionist in the head before fleeing out a back door with an unknown amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing:
- A black winter jacket
- Blue jeans
- A mask or hat that covered the bottom part of his face
- Glasses
- Gloves
