WINNIPEG — A warming hut on the Red River at The Forks had to be relocated after sitting in a big puddle of water.
“The Hole Idea” was surrounded by a huge pool of water on top of the ice on Friday afternoon, which gave the illusion to skaters that it was sinking into the river. The Forks, however, reassures Winnipeggers it was not.

“The ice had shifted and when the ice shifts sometimes water can come through,” Kristen Pauls at the Forks said. “It came through and started pooling, we noticed it early this morning and so we moved it.”
Pauls said crews cordoned off the water for safety, but no one is in danger.
“It’s just a bit of a slushy mess right now,” Pauls said.
The Forks said that the ice is still safe and is checked regularly. The trail remains open to the public.
