KELOWNA — Tomas Soustal scored twice to give the Kelowna Rockets a 2-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a showdown for top spot in the WHL.
The Rockets opened the scoring when Soustal beat ‘Canes netminder Stuart Skinner top shelf. It was Soustal’s first goal in 14 games.
The 18-year-old Czech import scored his second of the night less than three minutes into the third period, giving the Rockets a two-goal cushion.
The Hurricanes cut the lead in half thanks to a goal from former Okanagan Hockey Academy product Jordy Bellerive.
Rockets netminder Michael Herringer kept his club’s one-goal lead intact with some huge saves in the dying minutes of the third. He stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced on the night.
With the win, the Rockets now lead the WHL with 73 points.
