WINNIPEG — This week dozens of Winnipeg seniors will also be serious gamers. They’re a part of 24 residences across the country participating in the 7th annual Seniors Games.
“You meet new friends that maybe you haven’t met before, it’s wonderful,” Letitia Taylor, one of the participants said.
Organizers of the event said this is the week they often see many of their shy residents come out of their shells.
“We have people that might need that little boost or that little bit of encouragement to try something new,” Leslie Fiorino said. “And all it takes is one of the leaders to say come on out!”
Some of the games include shuffle board, bocce ball and archery. The homes tally up the highest scores and they are compared across Canada. The winners are presented with bronze, silver and gold medals following the competition.
“More than anything it’s nice to see the spirit of fun and fair play still active and alive,” Taylor said.
The games run until February 5.
