CALGARY – Police are searching for suspects following a late-night shooting in the community of Douglasdale.
Officers were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Douglas Ridge Circle just before 12 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of shots fired.
When they arrived, investigators found two men with minor injuries, but said no one was struck by the gunfire. One victim was treated at the scene and the other was taken to hospital but later released.
Police said in a Tuesday news release the shots were fired after an “altercation occurred” between the two victims and three men who approached them outside the home.
Global News spoke with a man who claimed to be one of the victims of the attack.
Robert Hillenga said he and a friend were smoking in a truck parked in the driveway of his home when a vehicle pulled up behind them.
“There’s a guy there with a clown mask on… he’s got a shotgun. Two guys go to the driver’s side and one guy goes to my side. They’re bashing on the windows and bust the driver’s side window.”
Hillenga said his friend was pulled into the backyard, at which time several shots were fired.
Eventually, the suspects fled the scene.
Hillenga said he was able to get the license plate of the vehicle involved and report it to police.
Investigators said one man was arrested shortly after the assault and charges are pending against him.
Police are still looking for the other two suspects.
It’s believed the attack was targeted, and that the victims and the offenders were known to each other.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
