Quebec City Carnival closed due to rain, warm weather

QUEBEC CITY – The annual winter carnival in Quebec City was closed Monday due to rain.

Organizers said the two main sites, the Bonhomme ice palace and the Plains of Abraham, will reopen Tuesday at 12 p.m. – just in time for international artists to begin work on their projects for the International Snow Sculpture Competition.

This is not the first time mild weather has interrupted carnival plans this year.

All the same, organizers are confident cooler temperatures in the forecast will make for a successful event.

Project operation manager, Daniel Bouchard, explained outdoor festivals are always subject to the weather and closing for rain or snow storms isn’t unheard of.
