WINNIPEG — The second leg of the Red River Mutual Trail is open to skaters, adding a stretch from Queen Elizabeth Way to Churchill Park on the Red River. That brings the river trail to a total of three kilometers this season. The first leg of the trail opened on January 21st, nearly a month behind schedule.

In a news release Monday, The Forks said the Red River Mutual Trail will continue to extend down the Red River, weather permitting, with the goal of reaching St. Vital Bridge.
Local artist Chris Jane has also offered the addition of an art gallery on ice. It’s the second year skaters are able to glide by works of art showcased under the Queen Elizabeth Way.
In the coming weeks, the trail will host a curling bonspiel, multiple events for Festival Du Voyageur and the inaugural Winter Derby.
