Man accused of killing Calgary father Wyatt Lewis pleads not guilty

CALGARY – A man accused of killing a Calgary father pleaded not guilty Monday.

James Rajbhandari is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Wyatt Benjamin Lewis.

Police said Lewis and another victim were stabbed in the hallway of an apartment building in the 1000 block of 16 Avenue N.W. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2012.

Lewis, 37, was rushed to hospital where he later died. He had been stabbed five times.

In an opening statement by the prosecution, jurors heard Lewis was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Crown said “someone brought a knife to a fist fight, a fight Lewis wasn’t even a part of.”

Rajbhandariis’ trial is expected to last three weeks.
