US boy, 7, injured in ‘tragic accidental shooting’

A seven-year-old boy was shot in the head by another child in Crossville, Tenn. Monday in what police described as a “tragic accidental shooting”.

The boy’s mother and stepfather were inside a local business paying a bill as four children were left unattended in the car, according to a release from the Crossville Police Department.

The children found a loaded semi-automatic gun inside the mother’s purse, which had been left in the car, police said.

Police said the weapon was accidentally discharged, leaving the seven-year-old boy wounded, the release said.

The child was airlifted to a Knoxville-area hospital for treatment but police say his condition is unknown at this time.
