REGINA – Two people are facing firearms-related charges after a loaded rifle was found in their car Sunday.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, Regina Police responded to a report of a disturbance, possibly a gun being fired, at a residence in the 100 block of Halifax Street.

According to police, witnesses said they saw a number of vehicles leaving the area, including a white Malibu. The driver of the Malibu was also seen getting into the vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm.

Police then spotted a vehicle matching the description near Toronto Street and 2nd Avenue. Officers then stopped the vehicle, which they called a high-risk vehicle stop because there was possibly a rifle in the car.

Two people were arrested and a loaded, sawed-off .22 calibre rifle was found in the vehicle.

Michael Lee Omilon, 23, from Wolseley, Sask. and Dakota Jordan Michelle Koch, 21, from Regina have been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon. The two appeared in Provincial Court Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.
