RED DEER, Alta. – DNA evidence has resulted in charges against a suspect in a violent sexual assault that took place in central Alberta 14 years ago.
An 18-year-old woman was attacked in a Red Deer park in July 1998.

RCMP say DNA evidence was taken at the time, but no match was immediately found.
But two years ago a match was made and the accused was eventually located in Halifax.
Lawrence MacPherson, who is 36, faces three sex-related charges, including sexual assault.
