Breakfast Buzz: Should Saskatoon adopt a youth curfew?

A Saskatoon woman wants a youth curfew in Saskatoon. Do you think it would work?. Al Ramsay / Global News

SASKATOON- How do you think a curfew for all high school students would do here in Saskatoon? In a letter to the Board of Police Commissioners, Agatha Eaglechief says a 10 p.m. CT curfew for high school students is necessary to get kids off the streets. She will present her letter at Thursday’s meeting of the police commission.

In the letter she says at times there are so many kids out late it is ridiculous, and that “the public have to be reminded that their children are their children.”

Saskatoon has considered a youth curfew in the past, but rejected the idea in part because it would be difficult to enforce.

There are youth curfews elsewhere in the province. In November the Town of La Ronge started enforcing a curfew for all residents under the age of 18. Parents there could be ticketed if their child is unaccompanied between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
