Vancouver music legend Dal Richards will lend his name to a Vancouver street or public space as a way to honour his legacy.
City council took a vote last night, and the motion put forward by city councillor Melissa De Genova to recognize Richards’ life and legacy in Vancouver passed unanimously.
The “King of Swing” died on New Year’s Eve at the age of 97.
He received many honours during his lifetime including the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, the Freedom of the City of Vancouver, the highest award given by the city, and was an inductee into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Earlier this month, BC Place was glowing orange for three nights in a row to honour Richards.
City staff will now look at options to identify a place or civic asset to be named in recognition of Richards and will work with the musician’s family, the Park Board, the Civic Asset Naming Committee, the Pacific National Exhibition and other stakeholders.
