OTTAWA – Tom Mulcair says he is energized after the holiday break and remains motivated to fight inequality in his role as NDP leader.

Although Mulcair stresses key issues such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, he cannot shake off questions about his future at the helm.

The party is preparing for a caucus retreat in Montebello, Que., this week before the resumption of the House of Commons.

New Democrats are reviewing the devastating election results, which reduced them to third-party status in the Commons with 44 seats, down from 95 when the October election was called.

Mulcair is to face a leadership review at the party’s upcoming convention in April in Edmonton.
