WINNIPEG – Many of us are hoping for more sleep in the new year but don’t know how to go about it.
Sleep consultant Teresa Johnson joined Global’s Morning News to share her best tips for a sound sleep Monday.
“There are so many benefits to good sleep,” Johnson said, when discussing how to get children to bed earlier. “We need to be really intentional with their sleep to help them form really good sleep habits,” Johnson said.

Thompson stressed the importance of a bedtime routine and staying away from computer, television and smart phone screens about half an hour before sleeping.
“When you have a structured bedtime routine with your children they know it’s coming every night it’s around the same time, that starts a chemical reaction that gets them ready for sleep,” Johnson said.
She also recommends making more time for sleep in your schedule and making it a priority with a dark environment that is free from clutter and distraction.
