GLENBORO — A large fire in Glenboro, MB destroyed one of the town’s century old buildings Saturday evening.
Deputy fire chief Garth McIntyre said volunteer firefighters from Glenboro and nearby Cypress River were called to the fire around 6 p.m.
“One of the challenges was keeping the fire away from wires that also connect to nearby buildings,” McIntyre said.

The home is not currently occupied, but it is located near a hospital and personal care home. There was one man taking care of the property present in the home at the time of the fire but he managed to escape. There were no reported injuries.
“The cold made putting out the fire more challenging,” McIntyre said, also noting that some of the crew was still on scene well into Sunday afternoon.
It’s still too early to confirm what caused the blaze but the chief suspects it could have been the wood furnace.
