WATCH ABOVE: Lethbridge author Jessica Jackson has recently published her tenth book. Matt Battochio has the chance to catch up with the author to find out what’s inspired her to keep writing – Jan 15, 2016

Lethbridge’s Jessica Jackson has been writing for over 30 years, but it’s only in the past five years she’s been able to produce her own novels, completing a whopping ten books since 2011.

“It’s neat to have them lined up on your shelf,” Jackson said with a laugh. “One day it would be nice to have the whole row, or more.”

But before she started churning out the books, Jackson had to decide what genre to specialize in. Though she had her heart set on science fiction, her sister changed her mind, by getting her back into romance.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“So I started reading romances again and the ideas just flowed,”Jackson said. “I’m kind of a proponent of the idea that once you find your right genre, if you’re a genre writer, you won’t run out of ideas.”

Her latest book, The Melancholy Marquess, involves a man with a big secret. Though her stories are always different, Jackson likes to finish in a familiar way.

“No sad endings for me,” she said. “I’m not saying there aren’t parts that you might cry in, but generally I prefer a book that people smile most of the way through.”

Jackson self publishes her books, and loves the opportunity to share her worlds and ideas with others. Her hope is to turn her passion into a full-time career.

“The goal is to never need a day job again.”
