MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Five Hills Health Region has a new MRI machine in the Moose Jaw Hospital.

The new piece of medical equipment is touted as the first Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner for rural Saskatchewan.

The Minister of Health announced back in May of 2014 that the hospital in Moose Jaw would be getting the $3.46 million piece of equipment.

“Providing timely and high-quality medical imaging services for Saskatchewan patients is a high priority for our government,” said Health Minister Dustin Duncan.

“The addition of MRI services in Moose Jaw will increase the public health system’s imaging capacity and help many people in Southern Saskatchewan receive a diagnosis and treatment sooner.”

The new MRI machine has already taken 370 patients from the Five Hills and Cypress Health Regions off the wait-lists in Regina and Saskatoon, and will be first priority for the new imager in Moose Jaw.

“The reduction in patient travel and wait times will result in more timely diagnostic information for patients and care providers, enabling better patient outcomes,” said Five Hills Health Region President and CEO Cheryl Craig.

A grand opening for the new service will be held in February.
