Even in the middle of January with snow on the ground, Wednesday was an exciting day for avid cyclists in Lethbridge. The city unveiled a new plan it hopes will allow the public to get around the community much easier on two wheels.
“Our goal is to make a safe, efficient cycling network within the city,” Cycling Master Plan project manager Adam St. Amant said. “Hopefully we can get this whole plan done in the next year.”

The city’s Cycling Master Plan is in its very early stages, but the goal is to improve on-street infrastructure to give cyclists a safer, more efficient ride through the city. Over the next three weeks, the city will conduct a telephone survey of approximately 400 people to determine who might use new facilities and connections if available.
“You get that call, I know sometimes that can be frustrating,” Lethbridge city councillor Blaine Hyggen said. “You know, you’re home for supper and you get that call, but it’s important to give the information that we need to know. To make it safer, and they’re input what’s going to make this develop into the way that we want it to be.”
After the survey is finished the city plans to set up public engagement sessions to gain more feedback.
